Title: Principal Project Manager - Property & Buildings 1
The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Project Manager to join our Environmental team, part of the Advisory business - a vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK.
In this role you will act as a project management team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to project management teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers. The role gives you the opportunity to deliver projects across a number of sectors, from rail, to highways to complex facilities.
In addition to core project management responsibilities, the role requires a working knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and consenting requirements, ensuring projects remain compliant and responsive to evolving regulatory obligations. The individual shall oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of environmental survey programmes, recognising the constraints and opportunities presented by species-specific survey calendars and seasonal data collection windows. They must effectively manage interdependencies between specialist environmental disciplines, including ecology, landscape, climate resilience, carbon, arboriculture, water and heritage, ensuring integrated decision-making, programme alignment, and risk management. This includes anticipating survey, design and consenting interfaces that may influence project scope, programme, cost, and successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities include:
- To act as a project management team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to project management teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers
- Preparing and leading the preparation and checking of project management related information that enables Amey Consulting commissions to be delivered whilst satisfying the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme
- Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, including presenting proposals
- Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function, taking responsibility for the preparation of technical and commercial offers with accountability to the bid director
- Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business
What you will bring to us:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject (desirable)
- Full membership of the Association for Project Management
- Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status with the Association for Project Management
- Applies project management theory and principles to clearly understood situations, where concepts are matched to problems
- Takes ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and is fully capable of working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks. Can check deliverables to a reasonable standard and takes ownership for this
- Very good working knowledge of relevant project management software and similar analytical tools
- Demonstrates good commercial awareness
